AgriBusiness Turbine Refurbishment

The Scope

A large agribusiness client relied heavily on steam to power its processing plant and support the manufacture of its fertiliser products. The steam
turbine was therefore critical to the operation of the business, with any unplanned outage having a direct impact on production.

To maintain reliability and minimise the risk of unexpected downtime, the client engaged Hutec to undertake regular turbine inspections,
maintenance and servicing, ensuring the equipment remained operating safely and efficiently.

Our Solution

Hutec carried out a comprehensive inspection and overhaul of the turbine, removing the top outer casing and rotor to enable detailed inspection of the internal components. The diaphragms were inspected, the turbine underwent a thorough deep clean, and worn or damaged components were replaced as required.

The project also involved removing the generator through the facility roof and coordinating its off-site overhaul, requiring careful planning and coordination to minimise disruption to the client’s operations.

Hutec’s end-to-end capability allowed inspection, engineering and repair work to be managed seamlessly. With the required expertise and resources available in-house, our team was able to develop methodologies and engineer solutions on the spot, addressing issues as they were identified rather than defaulting to costly equipment or component replacement.

This practical, problem-solving approach helped extend the life of the existing machinery while reducing unnecessary replacement costs and downtime.

Following the success of the project, the client entrusted Hutec with the majority of its ongoing maintenance requirements across the business.
