In-Feed Conveyor

The Scope

A North Island sawmill relied on an in-feed conveyor to de-bark a high volume of logs. Years of heavy-duty operation had left the existing conveyor in significant disrepair, with the maintenance team spending almost every weekend welding cracks and carrying out repairs to keep it operational.

With ongoing maintenance becoming increasingly costly and disruptive, the client engaged Hutec to design and build a new heavy-duty conveyor engineered to withstand the demands of continuous sawmill operations and provide long-term reliability.

Our Solution

Hutec provided a complete end-to-end solution, taking responsibility for the design, fabrication and installation of a brand-new in-feed conveyor. This gave the client a single point of contact throughout the project, simplifying coordination and ensuring a seamless transition from design through to commissioning.

The new conveyor was engineered around the sawmill’s existing equipment, with close collaboration with the client to ensure the foundations and interfaces were correctly designed and prepared before installation.

The project was delivered within a tightly defined shutdown window of just two weeks, with the foundations required to be completed three weeks before the conveyor could be installed. Achieving this schedule required detailed planning, careful coordination and precise sequencing of works.

Hutec successfully completed the installation within the shutdown period, delivering the project on schedule and minimising disruption to the sawmill’s operations.
