Junior Mechanical Engineer

A great opportunity for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our small team in Eastern BOP.  This role focuses on assisting the existing team in delivering engineering projects of varied scope.  You’ll need to be technically astute, experienced with 3D modelling solidworks, able to perform FEA calculations and a sound knowledge of Word and Excel.  A positive attitude, professionalism and exceptional communication skills are a must.  This is a real opportunity for a junior or graduate Engineer with some real-world work experience.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or Diploma with industry experience
  • Experience with 2D and 3D modelling, with the ability to reverse engineer
  • Have good knowledge of New Zealand standards and codes
  • Ability to assist with research, design, fabrication and construction of equipment from concepts and sketches
  • General project support and office work associated with engineering and project management tasks
  • Must have New Zealand residence or citizenship and a full NZ drivers’ licence
  • Exposure to fabrication and maintenance processes

Foreman / Manager – Machine Shop

If you’re looking for your next step forward with your career in the industry and have experience operating manual lathes and mills, CNC lathes and Mills, then we would love to hear from you.   We are an established local engineering firm who are looking to expand their team and bring aboard someone who has proven skills and experience to manage our workshop and lead our team.

In this role you will be Forman / Manager of a small team of Machinists / Fitter Turners who are responsible for a range of activities associated with machining, maintenance, repairs, installations, and overhauls. This role is based in eastern BOP.

The team have fostered a unique workplace environment by not only promoting work-life balance, but also knowing how to get the work done, and have a laugh along the way.

The role is predominantly workshop based with some site- based work with a variety of industry clients in the following industries:

  • Power generation
  • Forestry
  • Pulp & paper
  • Dairy

 About the role:

The key areas of focus for this role are:

  • Staff and time management, with efficient job delegation for the team.  Ordering of parts and supplies and dealing with our suppliers.
  • Clear communication / liaison (both face to face and via phone) with customers, staff, and the owners.
  • Ability to set and maintain high standards of expectation and able to meet deadlines.
  • Use of our job productivity system (WFM) to manage time spent on jobs, resource use and accurate invoicing.
  • Comply with all requirements of the company Safety, Health & Environmental manual, or local procedures.

 About you:

To be successful, you will require the following skills:

  • Mechanically minded with machining, fabricating and fitting skills with the ability to read and understand drawings.
  • Ability to plan, organise and coordinate the designated work areas ensuring work is completed safely, promptly and within budget allocations, conforming to agreed Engineering Standards or Classification requirements.
  • Be a team player with the ability to work unsupervised. Strong attention to detail, but be able to listen and learn new skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a complex environment while maintaining composure and task focus.

Fitters, Fabricators, Valve Techs, Heavy Machinists, Coded Welders

Hutec Engineering provide comprehensive engineering services to a wide range of heavy industrial clients throughout New Zealand and overseas in the geothermal / hydro power generation, pulp and paper, timber products and dairy industries.

We are currently seeking trade qualified Fitters, Fabricators, Valve Technicians, Heavy Machinists, Welders and Coded Welders.

Qualifications and Experience

• Level 4 Maintenance & Diagnostics, Relevant Trade Certification, or equivalent qualification relevant to role. Level 5 (advanced trade cert) would be an advantage, but is not essential.

• Experience with interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and clear understanding of limits, fits and tolerances.

• Hands on practical experience in a range of industrial sectors, preferably energy, pulp and paper, dairy, and wood products and processing.

• Resourceful, efficient, motivated, and able to work in isolation when required.
